Merge PDFs
Combine multiple PDF documents into a single unified file in your exact custom page sequence directly in your browser with zero server uploads.
Selecting a file allows the browser to read it locally. Files are processed locally in your browser when using supported tools. No upload required for supported workflows.

Client-Side PDF Concatenation and Assembly
The Merge PDFs tool combines two or more separate PDF files into a single, unified document directly within your web browser. Using client-side binary parsing and document assembly, each source PDF buffer is validated for structural integrity, inspected for page counts, and concatenated in your specified sequence without uploading sensitive files to external servers.
During concatenation, the engine traverses the page tree of each queued PDF and copies page dictionaries, content streams, embedded TrueType and CID font subsets, vector paths, and raster image objects into a new PDF 1.7 container. Cross-reference tables and object identifiers are renumbered and serialized using compressed PDF object streams so the combined file opens cleanly across desktop and mobile PDF viewers.
The workspace provides a Document Merge Sequence manager alongside a real-time Merged Document Live Preview. You can inspect per-file page counts and byte sizes, reorder documents using directional up and down buttons, customize the output filename, and preview every page in its unified output order before generating the final merged PDF.
Core Tool Capabilities
- Deterministic Queue Reordering: Arrange queued PDF files in exact sequence using the Move up, Move down, and Remove controls in the Document Merge Sequence panel. Each row displays its position badge, filename, individual page count, and byte size so you can verify packet order at a glance.
- Merged Document Live Preview: Inspect the complete readable page sequence across all queued documents in the Merged Document Live Preview before executing the merge. Reordering or removing a file in the queue immediately updates the live page preview to reflect the new assembly order.
- Pre-Flight Header & Encryption Validation: Validates every incoming file for the `%PDF-` header signature, non-zero page structure, password protection status, and the 100 MB per-file memory safety ceiling upon selection. Invalid or encrypted files are flagged with clear error messages before assembly begins.
- Lossless Vector & Font Preservation: Copies raw PDF page content streams, vector graphics, and embedded TrueType, OpenType, and CID font dictionaries directly into the target container with 0% bitmap re-rasterization. Text and technical line art retain their original sharpness at any zoom level.
- Custom Output Filename & Progress Tracking: Automatically suggests a default output filename based on your first queued document (`-merged.pdf`) while allowing you to type a custom filename in the Output Filename field. Real-time progress percentages report validation, page copying, and object stream serialization stages.
- In-Browser Binary Serialization: Executes all PDF parsing, page tree copying, and compressed object stream saving locally within client session memory. Confidential contracts, financial statements, and academic records remain on your device with no server uploads.
Local Browser Privacy
Your files are processed locally on your device. Files are not uploaded, transmitted, or stored on remote servers.

Technical Specifications & Platform Limits
Requires at least 2 valid unencrypted PDF documents per merge operation.
Serialized with compressed PDF object streams for compact cross-platform compatibility.
Copies page dictionaries and embedded font subsets without canvas rasterization.
Renders the combined page order live in the workspace prior to final compilation.
Processes all PDF buffers in local browser memory with no file upload required.
Step-by-Step Workflow
Add Two or More PDF Documents
Drag and drop multiple PDF files into the workspace dropzone or browse your local storage to add documents to the queue. Each file is automatically validated for PDF structure, encryption status, and page count upon ingestion.
Arrange the Document Merge Sequence
Review the queued files in the Document Merge Sequence list and use the up and down arrow buttons to place them in your desired top-to-bottom order. You can also remove unwanted files or scroll through the Merged Document Live Preview to verify the combined page flow.
Configure the Output Filename
Check the Output Filename input at the bottom of the sequence panel, which defaults to your first document's name appended with `-merged.pdf`. Edit the filename text if you want a custom label for your consolidated packet.
Merge and Download Unified PDF
Click the Merge PDFs button in the summary header to copy all page trees into a single PDF 1.7 file. Once assembly reaches 100%, click Download Merged PDF to save the finished document to your computer.
Practical Real-World Use Cases
Legal Contract & Exhibit Packets
Attorneys and paralegals combine master service agreements, signed signature pages, statements of work, and numbered exhibits into a single filing PDF. Reordering files in the sequence list and checking the live page preview ensures exhibits appear in strict filing order.
Quarterly Financial & Tax Consolidations
Accountants and small business owners merge monthly bank statements, vendor invoices, and expense receipts into consolidated quarterly audit binders. Local in-browser execution keeps bank account numbers and tax records off third-party cloud servers.
Academic Dissertations & Grant Submissions
Researchers and graduate students join cover pages, manuscript chapters, laboratory data appendices, and curriculum vitae into a single submission file. Direct page stream copying preserves LaTeX vector equations and embedded font glyphs without blurring.
Client Proposals & Board Decks
Consultants and project managers assemble executive summaries, slide exports, and technical specification sheets into a unified client deliverable. Setting a custom Output Filename produces a clean, ready-to-share PDF package in seconds.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Are my PDF documents uploaded to an external server during merging?
- No. All PDF validation, page tree copying, and binary file generation run locally inside your web browser. Your files are processed in client memory and never leave your device.
- What are the file count and file size limits for merging PDFs?
- You must select at least 2 PDF files to run a merge, and each individual input PDF is validated against a 100 MB client-side memory safety limit. There is no fixed cap on the number of queued documents, though total combined payload size is bounded by your browser's available RAM.
- Will merging PDFs reduce image quality or rasterize vector text?
- No. The engine copies original PDF page dictionaries, vector paths, embedded fonts, and raster image streams directly into the new document container without re-encoding or rasterizing pages. All text remains selectable and sharp at any zoom level.
- Can I merge password-protected or encrypted PDF files?
- No. Encrypted or password-protected PDF files block direct page stream copying and are rejected during pre-flight validation. Unlock protected files first using the PDF Unlocker tool, and then add the decrypted files to the merge queue.
- How does merging handle different page sizes, orientations, and annotations?
- Each copied page retains its own original `MediaBox` dimensions, Portrait or Landscape orientation, and page-level annotations in the merged output. You can mix A4 reports, US Letter forms, and wide landscape slides within the same combined PDF without cropping.
